Well, well, well. Alberto Gonzales finally gets the ax.  i am sure that this will make a lot of people happy.  Republicans will be happy that they no longer have to defend this lying idiot.  Democrats can claim a victory on their oversight crusade,  and claim that they have actually been doing something up there on Capitol Hill.  But you need to ask yourself 2 questions: Why fire him when Bush has repeatedly said he has done nothing wrong? And Why now?

i am afraid that a very dirty deal has been done. Did you notice Bush's absence from Gonzo's announcement?  No words of praise from the Rose Garden for him.  Bush has only one issue that he cares about more and that is Iraq.  i believe that the moderate Republicans that were embarrassed by Gonzo are also the same people most likely to vote to stop this war.  Was the deal, "Get rid of Gonzo and we'll back your war"? i am sure that this is not the only part of the deal but it is probably the only part that the public will hear about.  Bush has probably also promised to support a bunch of earmarks to specific people but it will be next to impossible to tie this all together.

i know one thing: it is tough having a boss that tells you and the whole world that "you're doing a great job, Brownie" up until the very moment that he fires you (i.e. Rumsfeld)  That is one dirty deal.
