Intellectual Dishonesty

Politics is a blood sport that you rarely win. Usually someone else just loses.  i think last night we saw someone lose at the Republican debate.  Now let's set the backdrop, shall we.  Rudy and his advisors know that the biggest hurdle he will have to jump with Republicans is his stance on abortion.  Anti-abortion is not only a plank in the Republican platform but also one of the posts that holds the deck up.  The back room crowd knows that a lot of their voters vote strictly on this issue because they are true believers.  So Rudy had his work cut out for him since he supported federal funding of abortion for poor women, a position that not a lot of pro-choice people want to touch with a 10 ft. pole. Even they can see federal money belongs to everyone and you shouldn't make people pay for something they oppose so fiercely.  As soon as Rudy decided to run he had to start working on his answer.  He thought he could pull a fast one by saying he would support "strict constructionist" ( which everyone knows is code for anti Roe v Wade)judges for the court.  This ploy kicked the can down the road, but it didn't explain his prior statements.  Time kicked the can all the way to Cali. for the first debate.  Surely he had an eloquent answer after all those weeks.  So what does he say?  That is the hardest part because i am still trying to figure itout.  Let me try to break his answer down into parts.  First, he said " I hate abortion".  OK, sounds good for the anti's.  Then he said that ultimately it is a decision of conscience.  Ut-oh! There's one for the pro's.  Next, he said he did support funding but only because that is the law of New York.  Wait one minute, what does that have to do with federal funding?  He also said that he would support the Hyde amendment that bans federal funding.  And just when the anti crowd gets happy, he says again ultimately that it is a woman's right to make that decision of conscience.  WHAT THE....!!!  His answer sounded like gumbo, just everything thrown in  the pot but the kitchen sink.  If you think it is a woman's right to choose then you are pro-choice.  If you want to appoint judges that would overturn Roe v. Wade,  then you are pro-life.  You can't have it both ways.  That answer let me know all i needed to about Rudy.  It proves that he will say whatever he has to at the time to get elected.  Be careful: i think expediency fever is going around.  i know Rommney has a terminal case, and McCain needs to get himself tested before it is too late.

i wasn't going to write about this next bit but Rudy angered me because his answers insulted everyone's intellegence.  What did Rudy do on 9/11?  i saw him wandering around the devasted steets like everyone else wondering what to do now that the emergency crisis room was just blown up in the towers.  He was warned to move it after the 1993 bombing but he was hard-headed.  He could not communicate with anyone in emergency services because cell towers were jammed,  and as everyone knows, the radios he provided to police and fire didn't work.  We will never know how many people could have been saved if the firemen could have sent a warning to the police and other emergency crews not to come in.  Those brave heros were running into the towers until the moment they collapsed.  That is one reason why the firemen's union hates Rudy as much as he hates abortion.  Is that a lot or a little?  i dont know!!!!!  When he heard about police ramming something up someone's you know what, he didn't condemn it until witnesses came forward.  He was defending the police up until that point.  And yes i do know they have a tough job but it is beyond belief that one "human" would do that to another.

But i digress. Anyone who votes for Rudy after that performance is either not paying attention or  is intellectually dishonest.
