Apr 30th, 2007 Feeling Sorry for General David PetraeusI watched one of the best interviewers in the world, Charlie Rose, in a one-on-one with General Petraeus; and while they talked, I couldn't help but feel sorry for the General. All the people that support this war and want to see it continue quote him and call this surge his plan, even though everyone knows that this laughable strategy is 100% Bush. I am now afraid that when this current effort fails, Petraeus will get blame that he does not deserve. He is just a guy trying to do his best with a horrible situation. Have you ever been hired to a new job to discover that the guy who left left you with such a mess that you think you will never get your head above water? Imagine that scenario amplified with 100s or 1000s of lives hanging in the balance. What a brave and honorable man the General is. I am sure that a few generals ducked this job; but he knows the stakes and still decided to do his duty to crash this speeding car (that never had any brakes to begin with, oops!) in a way that would do the least amount of damage. God bless your heart, General! But you wait until this venture fails and all the talking heads will say, like they did with Tenent, " I was following the advice of Petraeus. It's not my fault!". And he will go down in the current press as another scapegoat whose head the "loyal bushies" will offer up as a distraction from the mounting pile of their failed predictions. Pooor General Petraeus.
